Beginning in 1993 each of then eighteen Regions elected a Director to the ACSA State Board for a three year period. Tom Michaelson was our first State Director, followed by John Bogie, Jim Vidak, Phil Lancaster and currently Christine Frazier who will be completing her term on June 30, 2008.

ACSA bylaws do not permit directors to be re-elected to a second term. Therefore, the Region 11 Board of Directors is announcing that they are accepting nominations for a new State Director. Information about this position and a nominating form are enclosed for the interested. NOMINATIONS FORMS MUST BE COMPLETEED AND RETURNED BY MARCH 31, 2008. The Region of nominating committee, representing all five charter, will review the applications and select a slate of directors for the election to be held at the May 1, 2008, Region Annual Meeting/delegate Assembly.

Nominations may be received from an individual ACSA member, colleague, charter, or committee, but must include the signatures of the nominee and his/her charter president. Nominees must also have the approval of their district superintendent. Election procedures, responsibilities and other related criteria regarding the position of the State Director, are included for your review.

ELECTION PROCEDURE - Consistent with State Bylaws 5.03

In electing a state director, Region 11 will conduct an appropriate election consistent with state guidelines. Each candidate will have the opportunity to give a three minute presentation at the May 1, 2008, Annual Meeting/Region Delegate Assembly. In addition, a 200 word "candidate's position statement", along with the candidate's biographical sketch, will be distributed to all voting members of the Region Delegate Assembly.

CRITERIA USED BY THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE IN SCREENING OF THE NOMINEES FOR STATE DIRECTOR:

  1. ACSA member with experience in a leadership position at the Charter/Region State level.
  2. Service on the Board of Directors at the Charter/Region level is preferable.
  3. Service on the State Councils/Committees, Region Delegate Assembly, Charter/Region Officer is preferable.
  4. member of task force or ad hoc committee, conference speaker or contributor to publications, etc.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STATE BOARD OF DIRECTORS (ACSA/SASS/FEA/PAC Board of Directors)

  1. The term of the Director shall be three(3) years, provided the Director is employed within Region 11. In no event shall a Director serve more than one full three year term from the same Region. In the event of a vacancy of a Director position, the Region Board shall fill the vacant member of Region 11 Board of Directors and Region Delegate Assembly.
  2. The Board of Directors consists of five officers and nineteen directors. Up to three directors at large may be appointed by the President on an annual basis.
  3. The Board Member serves as a member of their Region Board and attends Region conference and workshops.
  4. Attend six state board meetings a year which includes two delegate assemblies on annual conference, one board retreat, and two meetings to be determined.
  5. Participate in annual conference (board meeting is held in conjunction with this event).
  6. Serve as liaison to assigned state council/committees and maintain a close relationship, reporting to the board the major thrust of the council/committee.
  7. Upon request of the President, represent the Board at State and National Conference, as well as at meetings of other organizations and groups.
  8. Two members will be selected from the Board of Directors to serve with board officers on the Executive Committee for a one year term. The Executive Committee will meet as needed.
  9. Other Duties as required by the State Board, requested by the President.
