Message from Region XI President

Jose Morales:
Jose Morales

Welcome ACSA Region XI colleagues and prospective colleagues.

I am humbled and honored to be president for the 2011-12 school year. During the 2011 summer break, I have been able to follow my son, who just graduated from a high school in the California public school system, as he tours with the Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. Although this corps is a non-profit which is not affiliated to any particular school, it is made up of students and graduates who received their first music lesson and subsequent lessons through the public school system.

I mention this because it reminds me of the reason ACSA exists and we exist as administrators. We are here to ensure that students receive the greatest gift we can provide which is a well-rounded education, the great equalizer. As our public education system is being criticized and funding is being slashed at unprecedented levels, it becomes more important that our advocacy for what we believe continues and becomes stronger.
ACSA has been an integral part of my professional growth through its specific professional development offerings as well as through my increased understanding of and my participation in its robust intervention in the education of legislators on the importance of supporting public education through good legislation and adequate funding. As a board, one of our goals during the 2011-12 year is to expand our ranks of formal advocates for public education from active administrators who are not currently in ACSA as well as those prospective administrators who are working to join us.
I am pleased to be part of a regional board that is dedicated to public education, is outstanding in its advocacy, and leads in our journey to keep educational opportunities for all in the forefront.
