State of Emergency
In April 2011, the ACSA Executive Board voted to join with other education, labor and community groups to declare a Public School State of Emergency to bring attention to the need for lawmakers to pass the revenue extensions proposed by Governor Jerry Brown. Read More

Important ACSA sponsored bills:

  1. ACSA Sponsor - Julia Brownley - Chair, Assembly Education Committee: Development of a Single Formula to Identify Persistently Lowest Performing Schools (waiting for bill number - measure would move towards reducing or eliminating the myriad formulas that have developed - e.g. SIG, Open Enrollment, Parent Empowerment, etc.)
  2. ACSA Sponsor - SB 140 (Lowenthal) - Chair Senate Education Committee: Would require the CDE and SBE to call for the development by publishers to create Common Core "supplemental materials and standards maps" that can be used by LEAs in conjunction with their current basic textbooks to address the need for low cost support as the larger system moves towards reform in later years (2013, 2014, 2015).
  3. ACSA Co-Sponor- AB 124 (Fuentes): Creates a ELD Standards Commission to align CA's ELD Standards to Common Core
  4. ACSA Co-Sponor - AB 47 (Huffman): Would reform the recently enacted Open Enrollment Act to eliminate the 10% cap, call for up to 1,000 schools but not require it, identify only Decile 1 schools and include charters in the formula.
